GAGFAH GROUP supports Friedensdorf International

2/15/2007

  • GAGFAH commits itself for the long term with a view to sustainability
  • CEO Drescher: "We are assuming responsibility"
  • Friedensdorf opens up future prospects again for ill and injured children

GAGFAH GROUP, the Essen-based real estate company, will support the work of Friedensdorf International on a long-term and sustained basis. "As a housing company we see ourselves especially called upon to work in the social field. Assuming responsibility in society is a reflection of our self-image. This is why we are supporting this relief organization", emphasizes CEO Burkhard Ulrich Drescher. "Without the work done by Friedensdorf International many children would die as a result of their injuries and illnesses. The Peace Village opens up a chance of survival and future prospects once again to the weakest members of society. We would like this to continue and will hence support the Peace Village on a long-term and sustained basis."

Friedensdorf International helps children in areas of war and crisis, who cannot be provided with adequate medical care in their native countries. Around 85 % of the children suffer from injuries to their locomotor system as a result of stepping on mines or have bullet wounds or are injured by an accident. Another cause for their illness is malnourishment. These children are taken care of and looked after in hospitals in Europe which provide free treatment.

After inpatient treatment the children are rehabilitated in the Peace Village located in Oberhausen and are prepared for their return to their native country. At any given time the Peace Village looks after up to 300 children from an average of ten countries. Approximately 1,000 children have been taken care of annually in recent years. It would be preferable if the children were taken care of in their native countries near their parents and in order to ensure this, Friedensdorf International is also committed to setting up medical facilities in the children's native countries.

Burkhard Ulrich Drescher: "The outstanding care received in the hos-pitals and their subsequent stay in the Peace Village in Oberhausen allow the terrible events from the children's past to recede into the background. Those supporting the work of Friedensdorf International here restore a zest for life and a measure of confidence to the chil-dren.  We would like to contribute to this."

Head of Friedensdorf International, Ronald Gegenfurtner, thanked Drescher for the commitment: "For a couple of years now we have observed that the willingness to donate is on the wane. This affects the Peace Village in particular since our institution is solely financed by voluntary donations. Hence we are especially delighted about our new and reliable partner, the GAGFAH GROUP, and are very thankful for their magnificent support. The help provided by the GAGFAH GROUP will allow us to plan our work a little further."
