  • GAGFAH makes sustained and long term commitment

  • CEO Drescher: "We are taking on responsibility"

  • Friedensdorf gives new hope and opportunity to ill and injured
    children

GAGFAH GROUP, the Essen-based real estate company, will support the work of Friedensdorf International in Oberhausen, Germany, on a long-term and  ustained basis. "As a housing company we feel that we have a special obligation to act in a socially responsible way. Assuming responsibility for our society is a reflection of our self-image. That is why we are supporting this relief organization", emphasizes CEO Burkhard Ulrich Drescher. "Without the work of the Friedensdorf International many children would die as a result of their injuries and illnesses. The Peace Village opens up a chance of survival and future prospects for the weakest members of society. We don't want this to change, and that is why we support this relief organization on a longterm and sustained basis."

Friedensdorf International helps children in areas of war and crisis, who cannot be provided with adequate medical care in their native countries. Around 85 % of the children suffer from injuries to their locomotor system as a result of stepping on mines or of bullet wounds. Another cause for their illness is malnourishment.  hese children are taken care of and looked after free of charge in hospitals in Europe.

After in-patient treatment the children are rehabilitated in the Peace Village located in Oberhausen and are prepared for the return to their native country. At any given time the Peace Village looks after up to 150 children from an average of ten countries. Approximately 1,000 children have been taken care of annually in recent years. In order for the children to be taken care of in their native countries near their parents, Friedensdorf International is also committed to setting up medical facilities in the children's native countries.

Burkhard Ulrich Drescher: "The outstanding care received in the hospitals and the subsequent stay in the Peace Village in Oberhausen allow the terrible events from the children's past to somewhat recede into the background. Everyone who supports the work of Friedensdorf International restores a zest for life and a measure of confidence in these children. We want to make our contribution as well."

Head of Friedensdorf International, Ronald Gegenfurtner, thanked Mr. Drescher for the commitment: "A substantial decline in donations and the huge increase of costs in all areas of living have caused a lot of concern here at the Friedensdorf. The fantastic long-term support that we receive from GAGFAH eases a great deal of these concerns. While the Peace Village's very existence is not in danger, we want to be sure not to cut costs in the wrong places. Reducing the number of children we care for would certainly be the wrong approach."
